ABOUT POOLS BY DC DESIGN

Who We Are

Since 2008, Pools by DC Design has installed high-quality, artistic concrete decking, integrated backyard designs and swimming pools in and around the Corpus Christi area.

With a mission to provide all clients the highest level of service with quality products at the most competitive prices, it’s no wonder Pools by DC Design is loved by customers and rated as one of the premier pool builders in the area.

Pools by DC Design controls quality by doing all the work in-house.

No subcontractors are used so there are no delays due to conflicting schedules or inexperienced workers on the work site. The owner of Pools by DC Design, Mark Teinert, is the site supervisor of each project. You will find him onsite and working with his crew to complete every project.

Another guarantee of quality is that all Pools by DC Designs team members are pool construction specialists. Each person is an experienced artisan and they have worked together as a team for over 10 years. They take great pride in their craftsmanship, going above and beyond to add personal touches for every customer. When a Pools by DC Design project is completed, it’s turnkey and the customer can immediately enjoy their backyard oasis.

What Makes Us Different

Why we encase all of our pools with gravel

The soil conditions around the Coastal Bend are less than ideal. Our clay soils expand and contract all the time. In many areas we encounter water table issues around 5 ft and sometimes as shallow as 1 ft. This can cause tremendous pressure on pool walls and floors, especially with gunite pools that are in direct contact with the surrounding soils. Long term effects can be pool movement, leaks, and costly cracks in the plaster and the gunite shell. Gravel around all of our pools acts as a shock absorber and negates the issues associated with these soil types. This is why we use gravel under the floor and around all the walls in all of our pools.

Why we install an 8” PVC pipe behind all of our pools

An 8” pvc pipe known as a hydrostatic relief tube is installed behind all of our pools in order to provide a periscope and show if water is around your pool. Similar to a straw in a glass, the water in the straw will be at the same level as the rest of the water in the glass. Having water around your pool, is fairly common due to the water table issues in the area and the clay soils which retain water. By itself it poses no threat to your pool. However, if you drain a large portion of the pool and water is around it, the water pressure can cause pool movement and even “floating.” The tube is a safety device to show the water level, but it also can be used to install a sump pump and pump water away from the pool before any maintenance is performed which requires reducing the pool water level.

Why we only build 12-15 pools per year

Unlike most other pool builders, we perform all work in-house. Mark the owner, is present on all jobs, working with his crew. One crew, one pool at a time. As a result, 6-8 weeks later your swimming pool is complete, vs 5-8 months later with other builders. Our clients love this hands on boutique approach which results in more referrals and repeat clients. We could build more, but why would we?

Why we build pools without a plaster interior

Plaster is a concrete material and is porous. It is not 100% waterproof. Although it retains water well, the pores in the plaster still allow for migration of minerals, salts, metals and other chemicals. This process is referred to as osmosis. It’s occurring between the soil and the concrete gunite shell. It also occurs between the gunite shell and the plaster as well as between the plaster and the pool water. This is why gunite pools are so difficult to maintain healthy and clean water by a homeowner. The monthly cost to have a pool service is around $200/ month in the Corpus area. This is one of the main reasons why we have switched away from plaster and now instead use a Renolit reinforced PVC membrane that is 100% waterproof in both our ICF pools and our Polypropylene pools. With no osmosis occurring, it is very easy for our clients to maintain their own pools and to keep healthy and clean water. Plus the added benefit of our clients not having to worry about potential costly plaster repairs from cracking and leaking in our less than desirable soil conditions

Meet Our Team

OWNER

MARK TEINERT

Mark began his company specializing in artistic concrete  in 2008. Due to numerous requests from customers to build pools in their back yard, he realized he could expand and offer a complete backyard oasis. Beginning first with fiberglass pools in 2016, he has since expanded into other types of pools.  He was one of the first pool builders in the US to offer ICF swimming pools and one of the first to use Renolit PVC membrane in a residential pool.

Mark and his wife, Alison, call Corpus Christi home, regarding their customers as neighbors and friends. As an owner/operator, Mark strives for customer satisfaction – before, during and long after their backyard project is complete.
